Peer Pressure from the Priest
I really enjoyed the discussion about "Sinners in the Hands of Angry God" because the preacher basically forced his thoughts into the heads of his audience. Churches are thought of as serene temples of worship, but this seminar obviously gives the opposite effect. I just can't imagine seeing this speech being given in mine... The speech uses multiple examples of negative dialogue to strike fear into the hearts of all those who listen and to try to convince them that his path was the only path to salvation in God. This use of fear is a powerful persuasive tool. The "way out" presented at the end of the speech also helps to persuade the audience because it is as if the only option is that option to escape eternal suffering in hell. The piece uses persuasion and intense imagery to convey the author's point of view of religion and to get those who listen to follow in his ways.
